How It's Made: Popsicle Paddles
Share
Why are they expensive? Because it takes a lot of time and effort to make them! Popsicle paddles and other similar pieces are made from 1/4" plate steel, which is procured locally. I design the paddles using Fusion 360, and generate a CNC toolpath file.
I then cut out the popsicle blanks using a CNC plasma cutter...
Once the blanks are cut, they're de-scaled and smoothed out using hand tools.
The interior and exterior edges are machined to be nice and round, and a small hole is added and beveled for a lanyard.
From there the popsicle is cleaned then sandblasted. The blasting process helps smooth out rough edges and prepares it for powder coating.
Once blasted, they're cleaned and pre-baked to remove contaminants.
And then powder coated and baked again to cure in a variety of finishes.
And finally, they make it to the store for folks to purchase and enjoy!
